Day 51 - Tuesday, February 25th, 2025 – At Sea
Despite sleeping most of the previous day, we slept pretty well. The rocking of the ship has mellowed quite a bit. It must be because we are in the open Indian Ocean. It hasn't stopped, but it's better than it has been. We were able to do the shower the normal way not the circus way. We had some breakfast. We have a big dinner tonight, so we had a lighter breakfast. I just had oatmeal and espresso. Mary had a fruit plate and bagel.
On the way back we ran into Tony and Corrine, we think her name is, she is the animated lady we met the first day. He is the ex cop. They are a super nice couple. We ended up talking to them in the hallway for nearly an hour. We talked about everything from Fremantle, Perth, books, other excursions, etcetera. It turns out they live right in the villages. They seemed to have traveled a great deal more than we have. They seemed to be Celebrity cruisers. Not that that's good or bad, just a comment.
We hung around the cabin until we had to go to dinner at 6:00. We had signed up for the international wine tasting dinner. The menu is attached, but there were 5 or 6 wines from different countries. We got there on time. We were seated at a table with ten other people. It was a lively group and there was a lot of conversation. Ricardo, the head sommelier, and Silvio, head restaurant manager, kicked things off by introducing what was going to happen. Ricardo discussed the wines at a high level. For the next 2 1/2 hours or so we ate and drank. It was not as fancy as the chef's dinner. Nor was it the amount of food. The courses were smaller, which was a good thing. The risotto was excellent. For the appetizer I had the portobello mushroom. Mary had the beef tartar. She did not particularly care for hers, so I ate most of it. We both had the beef for the main meal. It was excellent. Overall, the food was very good. The wines were good. They were not great. They were all second tier. Now that we have drank enough of the good stuff, we know what the second tier is. This is not a criticism. The champagne was good but we've had better. I would have to say that the pinot was pretty good. We especially like the port we had with dessert. They were all good. I think the intent of the evening was to show that good wines come from various places in the world. It was a successful dinner. We met some interesting people. We had some decent wine. We ate some good food. What could I possibly complain about?
After dinner, we headed straight for the cabin. As mentioned, we both had more than enough wine to drink. Our pillows felt good.
