Day 50 - Monday, February 24th, 2025 – At Sea
Having had one of my typical nights, I was awake at 3:00 in the morning. I got to thinking about how far away we are from home. In my mind, I'm thinking that we are somewhere near the furthest point away from home that we will be on this trip. I tried to find a website that was reliable, but the answers some of them came up with didn't make sense. I tried two or three different sites to see if it could come up with the same number. Anyway, it would need more real research but the furthest that came up With the most reliability was 11,000 miles from Orlando to Fremantle. That's about 10 times the distance between my parent’s house and our home in Florida. That's a crazy distance. What is the furthest you've ever been from home?
Because it had been almost 18 hours since we ate at the brewery, we were pretty hungry when we got up. I had my eggs benedict and two tomato juices. Mary had an omelette, 2 sausages, 2 hash Browns and an English muffin. She, of course, had tea. We sat there and worked on the puzzles as we ate our big breakfasts. After breakfast, we came back upstairs. Mary crashed almost automatically. She claims it was the tea. But she zonked for a couple of hours. I watched something on Netflix instead of being productive.
We were scheduled to play in the 1:00 poker tournament. We went downstairs to six at about 12:45. The tournament started and we played for about an hour each. I ended up in 3rd place. Mary was down somewhere near six or seven. She started strong, but then got beat up. I managed to win a few at crucial points which kept me in the hunt. Finally we were past bubble and I was in the money. Unfortunately, the two players I was playing with had much bigger stacks. I couldn't eat into both of their stacks quick enough before they got me. That's OK. I'll take third.
After the tournament, we decided I would go outside and push for a while. It was windy and cool but I decided to push anyway. I was out there for about 40 minutes. I might have done 1000 pushes. The wind was pretty stiff. From there I came back upstairs. We sat in the room until it was dinner time. We cleaned up a little bit and headed downstairs.
Dinner was average. At this point we pretty much have had everything on the menu that we are interested in. For my appetizer I had a goat cheese souffle. It was kinda good. I had salad times one. Mary had salad times two. She had fried chicken. I had beef tenderloin tips. These were really good. The sauce was as good as the meat. We both had orange sorbet. I ordered a glass of grand mariner too. I thought the two oranges would work together, but the liquor was really strong. It was a nice dinner. The staff was friendly as always.
The intent was to go to dinner and get out in time to see the 730 show. There was a guy doing Johnny Cash music. Unfortunately, by the time we got out of dinner and made it to 7 all the wheelchair spots were taken. Our choice was to sit around for two hours or go back to the cabin. I knew that if we went back to the cabin we probably would not go to the 930 show. Nonetheless, that's the decision we made. Back in the room, we again fought sleep. As it got to be 9:00 we decided not to go to the 930 show. We can listen to Johnny Cash on the radio sometime. I was watching this series on Netflix, as I write this I don't remember the name of it. Mary was reading her book and doing whatever she was doing. And she finally went to bed about 11:00. I ended up sitting up and falling asleep. She woke me up at 2:00 at the desk. That's when I went to bed. It was a good day. Pretty uneventful compared to most, but a good day is a good day.
