At Sea
Day 37 - Tuesday, February 11, 2025 – At Sea
After another horrible night of not sleeping and keeping Mary awake, we decided to go to 14 for a quick breakfast. My legs would just not stop bouncing in bed. I don't know what the problem was. It happens every so often. One of the joys of living in this body. Anyway, we got cleaned up and went up to 14. That's the Horizon Court. As we travel South, it's getting cooler and cooler. It is probably in the 70s right now as I write this, but it was in the 50s when we got up this morning. In order to get to the horizon court we have to go up to 14 and then walk the length of the ship. Much of that walk is outside. It was cold and windy. I had coffee and an English muffin. Mary had full breakfast. I was just not hungry, and I think I'm eating too much so I'm trying to cut back again. We'll see how that works out long term. We sat up there for an hour and ate. We worked on the puzzles. We ran into Teresa, the lady we've met at the wine tastings. Mary and she talked for a few minutes. We made it back to the cabin. We spent the next few hours working on the log, reading and Mary is still working on excursions. It sounds like she's got the next one figured out. So, we have something to do tomorrow. She has much of Australia figured out.
We went downstairs for dinner at about 5:15 or so. I had a different red blend wine. It was not that good either. I'm striking out on wine lately. I will keep trying, of course. Mary had salad. She then went off the menu and had a filet mignon. We had to pay a little extra for it, but it was well worth it. I was all over the map. I had black bean chowder. It looked like chocolate pudding. I've been a fan of black beans for a long time. This one was pretty good. For my second appetizer I had grapefruit and asparagus salad. I took a picture of it. The reason I decided to try it is I'm wondering what kind of mind comes up with pairing grapefruit and asparagus. It boggles my mind. I rarely say food is bad, but this combination was right there in the bad category. It tasted weird. For my entree I had halibut in an orange hollandaise sauce. I had a similar thought about orange and halibut, but this combination worked really nicely. Our waiter talked me into trying a seafood dish that they had off the menu. I did not have the full portion. I had an appetizer portion. It was good. It had calamari steak, shrimp in some type of fish on a mashed potato base. Remember me above saying I've been eating too much food? I can blame this on the waiter, right? For dessert I had strawberry sorbet. Mary had her vanilla vegan ice cream.
We wanted to get to the show. I don't think it's right to call him an Neil Diamond impersonator, but this guy did all Neil Diamond music. The show started at 7:30. We got there about 6:50 and the place was already packed. Thankfully we ran into someone who was able to kind of save us a spot. For the next 30 minutes I worked on the puzzle and I took a micro nap. Mary was over talking to the lady who found the spot for us. The music started. I know next to nothing about Neil Diamond, but I recognized most of the songs. I would say he did pretty good. The show lasted about 45 minutes. You can see part of one of the songs in the pictures below. In past cruises, we almost never went to the show. We had heard that the shows were not that good. I would have to say that the shows we've seen so far have been good. They're not great, but I don't expect great. They're a nice way to pass 45 minutes to see something different. We will continue to go to the ones that make sense for us.
On the way back from Princess theatre, of course there was a picture taking spot. We got another six to 10 pictures taken. The sun was setting so we raced back to the room. Mary was able to catch the last glimpse of the sun. With that, we will call it another successful day.
