We got up at normal time. We made it to breakfast by a little after 9:00. Mary registered us for 1:00 poker tournament. We went to breakfast - same old, same old, at this point. After breakfast, we came back upstairs and worked on excursions for the upcoming ports. We have leads on just about every port up to Sydney Australia. The big thing is trying to dial the telephone numbers. We can't tell if we're doing something wrong or it's because we're on the ship or some other reason. Some work. Some don’t. You have the code to exit the United States then you have the code for New Zealand, then you have the area code for New Zealand and then you have the telephone number. Sounds straightforward right? Well, it's not that easy. We keep trying so we will be smart at some point.
We went downstairs at about 12:30. We played cards in the tournament. Mary was knocked out around 7th. I bubbled, which did not make me happy. We will play a couple of times a week. It's $60.00 a tournament. 1st place is 275. We are already zero for three, so we have to win soon. 😊 Like playing at Del Webb, I have to remember it's just a game. You're spending time with friends. Nonetheless, you gotta be in it to win it. We've been pretty good about avoiding the slot machines. I'm hoping this continues. I can't imagine the odds are very much in the players’ favor on a cruise ship. I should ask what the house takes. Better yet, I better not. I won't like the answer.
We went upstairs. We did our afternoon routine which included reading e-mail, answering texts, updating the log, and, of course, napping. We headed to dinner around 6:30. It was a little late. We looked at the Princess Patter - the daily list of activities - and we didn't really see anything we wanted to go to. I tried a pinot noir. This is usually a safe choice, but this one was not that good for some reason. I'll have to try it again. For my appetizer, always trying something different, I had a venison and quail terrine. It was actually very good. I don't know that I can make a whole meal out of it but the small piece I got was pretty good. I had barramundi (fish) served on some kind of white bean and spinach base. It was good, but nothing special. Mary had a double salad. She also had the fried chicken. She got a leg and a thigh. She was happy. It looked good. Unfortunately, the pieces were small so I would have needed a couple of meals. Mary had her chocolate vegan ice cream. I had real ice cream with butterscotch, at least that's what I asked for. I actually think I got ice cream with caramel. I'll try again. Another night's dinner.
By the time we got out of dinner and walked past the explorers lounge they were just starting Friends trivia. Friends as in the TV show. I know I watched the show. I did not watch it religiously. I probably have seen a fair number of repeats. With that said, I obviously did not watch enough. There were 20 questions. Honestly, I think I got one right. And that was a complete guess. What did Phoebe change her name to? What were the names of Monica and Ross's parents? What were the names of the managers at central perk? And the list went on. When they asked who got over ten right, half the room did. There were a couple of teams that did 18 or more. My only thought there is that they've been to this type of quiz show before. Or, worse, they actually watched the show that much where they knew the answers. Talk about a time sink. The good thing was, I had a drambuie while I listened to it. We made our way back. Another successful at sea day. Starting this trip, now 30 some days ago, I was afraid of the at sea days. As it's turning out, we manage to fill them too.
