Day 26 - Thursday, January 30, 2025 – At Sea
We had breakfast on 7 - enough said there.
Because we are crossing the equator tonight, the ship's event team had a crossing the equator party. It was up on 14 near the Lido pool. We were there about 30 minutes early and there were already no spots. After some jostling around, we found good spots. We hung out there for the next 20 minutes. There was not an open spot anywhere. There had to be 500 or 600 people in the area. The presentation had something to do with King Neptune and his court. The guy who was doing most of the talking was talking into a microphone. My ears do not do well with amplified voice so I only picked up part of what he said. Mary was a couple of seats away so she couldn't help me either. Not that I cared. For me, it became more about people watching. The event was over in about 45 minutes. On the way back to the room, I stopped and had a chocolate ice cream. Why not? It was there. I thought Mary was going to have one too, but she said no. Damn party pooper.
When we cross the equator later tonight, it will be the second time we have crossed the equator. When we did the South American cruise back in 2018, give or take, we flew to Santiago Chile. On the way home we flew from Montevideo Uruguay. Looking at a map today, I can see we also crossed the Tropic of Capricorn. We will eventually cross that on this trip.
Mary had her hair appointment at 2:00 so I went downstairs and pushed for an hour. It's about 80° out. Because the ship is moving there is a pretty steady wind on the 7th floor. It's a workout to push one way and then you kind of fly back the other way because the wind is at your back. I manually counted the pushes there and back twice and both times it came out to be about 400 pushes. I did that cycle 7 times so I pushed about 2800 before Mary came and picked me up. I came back up to the room and she went for the second part of her appointment. I came upstairs and worked on the log for a while.
Mary made it back from her hair appointment around 5:00. We got cleaned up and went to dinner. We went to the fifth floor, the Bordeaux room. Working my way through the red wine menu, I chose a shiraz from South Africa. I think I had it before. It wasn't as good as I remember. It got better as the air hit it. I had a simple salad. I also had a bowl of Spanish soup, which name I don't remember. It did have a meatball in it which was good. I was trying to find something lighter on the menu. Mary had chicken kabob and a double Caesar salad. For her entree, she had pan fried chicken. I had beef liver. I've always liked liver. My mom made very good beef liver with bacon and onions. This was good, but not as good as hers. Whenever liver pops up on a menu I tend to get it. I was not disappointed. I had blueberry sorbet for my dessert. Mary had an apple Berry crumble of some sort. It was pretty good. My sorbet was good, but I would never know that it was blueberry. It was a nice dinner as always.
We wanted to see if anyone was playing cards. Of course, they were not. We did put $50.00 into a slot machine. It lasted about 15 minutes. From there we walked past the explorers lounge. They were playing some game but we weren't interested. Mary got herself a hot chocolate and we went upstairs. Before we went to bed, I started watching the movie Back In Action on Netflix. We were both in bed by about 11:00. We were crossing the international date line so we weren't exactly sure what time it would be when we woke up.
