Day 15 - Sunday, January 19, 2025 – At Sea
This morning we got up. That part was true. We were not exactly sure what time it was though. We thought that we gained another hour last night so we were confused when the TV said 8:00 when we thought it was 7:00. Mary's phone is not flipping time correctly. My watch said 7:00 so that's probably what my phone said. My phone was on the table being charged so it was not at hand. Mary was sure that we gained an hour last night. I wasn't so sure because I don't remember reading it. They also give you a little card at the end of the night saying that we're changing time zones. Anyway, Mary called the front desk and asked them. They confirmed we did not gain an hour, so we were still in mountain time. Tonight, we switched to Pacific Time. This is going to be an ongoing challenge throughout the trip. In theory we're going to continue to gain time until the international dateline. Then we will start to lose time. I'm guessing, at the end of the trip we are back where we started. Just an interesting observation at this point. I'm sure we will have this morning challenge more often than not.
So, we actually got up an hour later than we thought we were going to. Not a big deal. We went through the routine, and we went for breakfast by 930. I'm trying to eat less so I only had coffee, tomato juice and two pieces of rye bread. Mary had her typical breakfast - cheese omelet, 2 hash Browns and rye toast. We were in and out of there in about 30 minutes.
It was only about 60° out and really windy. There were a few people walking on 7 but not many. Those that were, were bundled up. Mary wanted to go to 8 to pick up the daily sudoku puzzle. I had not been up there, so it was a learning experience for me. The excursion office is up there. The future cruises office is up there. After these offices, you walk into the library and game room. They have every game you can imagine. I would guess they have maybe 200 books or so. Not too many, but they may be loaned out right now. They had two tables where there were puzzles partially completed. Mary and I worked on one for about 20 minutes. I think we got two or three pieces put together. We walk back to the room.
Because it was the last day of the cruise for those people getting off in Los Angeles, they have the big bingo. They have a jackpot that has to go. It can't be carried over. It's at least $2000. We Decided we would go. Mary had an appointment at noon, so I came back to the room and did whatever. She came back about 1:30 and we went down to seven. They have three different bingo packages. One is $79, one is $39.00, and one's $50, we decided on one $79 and one $39. If you know us at all, you know who had the $79 and you know who had the $39, right? The $79 was an electronic tablet with 72 cards on it. You didn't have to do anything, just watch it. The $39.00 was paper based. Because there was no way I was going to juggle the paper and the little marker, Mary ended up handling the paper and I watched the electronic device. We went through the first three games and didn't win anything. The fourth game was the jackpot game. Where is the one where you have to cover all of the squares on your card. Right off the bat, that was doing pretty well on the electronic device. Then I had two cards with one number left. Now that I write this, I forget exactly what the number was, but it was something like I-18. And what does the announcer say the next number is? I-18. The electronic device flashes and dongs and I yell bingo. They verified the electronic device and we were winner. The announcer then asks were there any other bingos? Yes, there was. We ended up sharing the $3250 jackpot. Mary got the voucher for her half of the money. Later, she took it to the casino where she collected the cash. Technically, it was her electronic device, so it's her money. I'll see if I can sweet talk her out of $5 or something. That was a lot of fun. As mentioned, because people were getting off in Los Angeles they had sales going on in the stores on the ship. We wandered over and saw that they have world cruise jackets, So we bought them. Surprisingly, they were not that expensive. I don't even think we spent 100 bucks on both of them. We made our way back to the room. Not a bad afternoon.
As I write this, three days later, I don't remember what we did for dinner that night.
