Day 10 - Tuesday, January 14, 2025 – Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala
For the excursion in Guatemala I did my search month ago or more. I found a company called Viator. They had a trip that they said was wheelchair accessible. I went so far as to even contact customer care. They assured me that they would have a van with a lift. We got up early, too early, and made our way to the shore. When we got there and finally found the tour guide, of course he did not have a van with a lift. I can't say I was completely surprised. It only cost $200.00 so we will try to get our money back. I did write a nasty review. We will likely not see our money so it will fall under the category of lesson learned.
We stayed on shore. There was a shopping area. Mary and I wandered around. We found our Tshirts, refrigerator magnets and Mary found postcards. Apparently, Guatemala does not have a working mail system. We got the postcards but we will have to mail them from Mexico I guess. I have found a tiny little green frog. What I’m going to do with him, I have no idea. He will probably get lost in my junk on my desk. I noticed the bar outside had a little Wi-Fi sticker by it. I was hoping that I could use their Wi-Fi to upload the pictures. Mary got the password and we logged in. It was a little faster than the ship, but not much. I sat there for about an hour trying to get the pictures to upload. I did get a chunk of them to go, but not nearly all of them. It was hot and we were tired. We went into the welcome hut and sat there for about an hour period. We talked to some of the people that we met already. When we were finally ready, we went back on the ship. That is the extent of our experience with Guatemala.
Back on the ship, I went to seven and pushed for awhile. Mary came upstairs and did laundry and other stuff. Back in the room, I worked on the log and napped. Mary did some research on Sydney and Melbourne. Hopefully those trips are getting closer. We found out that the Los Angeles trip that we wanted is not doable. Back to the drawing board on that one. The port that we go into is too far away from where the tour starts.
We headed to dinner. We sat in the suite area. I had a glass of Chardonnay. I just don't like Chardonnay. Everyone I get just isn't right. Maybe Chardonnay isn't for me. No big loss. Mary and I both had chicken satay which was pretty good. Mary had her Caesar salad. I had chicken chili which was really good. For my main meal I had baked mahi mahi. It was pretty good, not great. For dessert we both had a pineapple dish. They cooked it in something that took the sweetness out. I thought it was OK. Mary didn't like it at all.
It had been a long day. It was semi successful. We headed back upstairs and did this and that until we went to bed.
