Day 97 - Saturday, April 12th, 2025 – Corsica, France
Because we had a 10 o’clock pick up, we were able to go to breakfast on seven. Thankfully, it was not a meat locker. We had a nice breakfast. We got off the ship and made our way through the cruise terminal. We did not see our tour guide, so Mary called her. Through a series of calls it ends up that Olga found us. She was going to be our tour guide. We walked around the other side of the building where we met, let’s call him, John because we don’t remember his name, our driver. We loaded up into the van.
Our first stop was at an ATM. We were still on the hunt for euro. Mary was semi successful. She also bought stamps while we were there.
We drove through town straight to the Comte Peraldi winery. We got out of the van and spent the next two hours at the winery. This included a discussion of the terrain in the area, where they stored the wine, where they bottled and label the wine. We saw the oak barrel room where they store all the red wine. After all that, we went out and had an actual tasting. I forget the exact count, but I guess we tasted six wines. There were three white and three red wines. It seemed that all the whites were good. I only cared for the one red. It was the first one. Mary cared for a couple of the others too. We had a very nice selection of meat and cheese, prosciutto, olives, and breadstick. I’m sure we ate these out of order, but it didn’t matter. They were good. After the 30 minutes or so of winetasting, we went in and ended up buying four bottles. One white and three red. They were the same red but a different year. We took a bunch of pictures before loading up into the van.
From there, we drove to Lookout point. It was a cool, literally and figuratively place. You can see from the picture. This is also where Mary bought all the tshirts, postcards, and refrigerator magnet.
Napoleon was born on Corsica. He stayed there until he was nine. Then his parents sent him to school somewhere when he became emperor, he made Corsica part of France.
We drove back through town to the cruise terminal. There, we said our goodbyes. They went their way and we went ours. We met with Mark and Teresa. They helped us carry our bags and boxes onto the ship.
We made it back to the cabin. We both napped for a couple of hours.
We decided to go to dinner around five.
I had mushroom soup, shrimp appetizer, and flounder with cold water shrimp. I had brie and Gouda for dessert. Mary had salad, pasta, appetizer, and double pork chop. It looks good on the plate, but by time she cut all the fat away, she had only about 6 ounces of meat. She said it tasted good. That’s important. Mary had strawberry sorbet.
After dinner, we went to the front desk. We got the two letters we needed for the excursion cancellation. We also got our medallion updated because they were not working correctly. We looked in the lost and found for my vest, but it wasn’t there.
We then walked up to six and Mary stopped at the jewelry store to get raffle tickets. We also looked at the old lottery tickets and got new lottery tickets. Still no win.
There was a picture taking spot so we stopped and got pictures taken.
There was a guess the weight of this object for Park West on the way back. We have to wait till the auction day to see if our test is correct. (It wasn’t even close.)
We got made it to the room. We called my parents for a few minutes. I worked on the poker sheet for a while. There was an error in it so I put it away because I was too tired to find it.
It was another successful day.
