Day 64 - Monday, March 10th, 2025 – Cape Town, South Africa – day 2
We got out of bed a little late. We didn't make it to breakfast until a little before 10:00. They were serving breakfast until 10:00 so we just snuck in. They were nice about it. We ate pretty quickly and then made our way down to the gangway to get off. We had decided earlier that Mary would take a taxi into town. I would stay on the shore and hang out. I went all the way through the cruise terminal where Mary picked up a taxi. For the next almost three hours I pushed outside the cruise terminal in the parking lot. It was nice and sunny and it was flat so I got some good pushing in. Mary picked up a taxi and the first on her list was a quilting store. Yes, I got a haircut 8000 miles away from home, Mary had to go to a quilting store 8000 miles from home. Of course she bought stuff. I'm not exactly sure what. Chances are I don't wanna know what. From there she went to the grocery store. She's going for wife of the year because she picked up 12 cans of Monster Energy. She also picked up all kinds of snacks and candy. The other thing she bought was shoe polish. Alright, it's quiz time. You played along with us for now for maybe 20 stops. What is the last step in the process? If you said mail the postcards you're obviously paying attention. If you didn't say mail the postcards I suggest you read a little closer. This is very important information. Did you realize that there's going to be a final exam a mere 50 days from now? Hope you're taking notes as we go. I can only imagine a few of you are now showing me the middle finger, so I will leave it there.
Actually, the taxi driver took Mary on a cruise up to the top of Table Mountain and other viewpoints. She got some really nice pictures. The taxi guy was very nice to her. It was 230 by time they got back to the cruise terminal. It was the successful trip. It really did not help us answer the question did we see Cape Town or South Africa, but we can say we were there. It was definitely better than sitting on the ship for two days. For a time that's what I thought we were going to end up doing. Together we made something out of nothing - not the first time.
To get back onto the ship we had to go back through South African immigration. There were hundreds, but thankfully being in the wheelchair I was able to skirt around all that. I felt bad in a way, but I'm glad we didn't have to wait probably 2 hours to get through the line. We were supposed to leave at 4:00, but they didn't leave until 6:00 because it took time to move all those people through immigration.
We made it to the room and we were rested for a while. We had dinner reservations at the crown grill. At the start of each leg we get a free upscale dinner. We chose to go to the crown grill. We got cleaned up and went down to seven. We both decided to have the Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon. Good stuff. For my appetizers I had scallops. We both had wedge salad. From my entree I had a rib eye. Mary had New York strip. I knew when I ordered the rib eye it was not the right decision. The meat itself was very good. Unfortunately ribeye is very fatty. They call it marbling. I don't care what they call it, it's fatty. I know there are people who like that. I'm just not one of them. Mary's New York strip looked really good. The next time we go that's what's gonna be on my plate. For dessert I had and apple and rhubarb cobbler. Salted caramel cheesecake. She really liked hers. I was not thrilled with mine. I would have to say I was disappointed. Part of it problem is a true statement that's on me. The scallops were good but not great. The dessert was not good at all. Next time?
After dinner we headed upstairs.
